I have a thing for foreign guys. Something about America just seems so "safe" to me, there's nothing exciting. The first thing my friends would tell you about me and my guy preferences is that I will end up marrying a white European. It seems simple enough, but for a southern black girl it's not necessarily considered normal. But since when have I ever been truly normal in the first place?
Over the years my biggest crushes have been on foreign actors, whether they be old or young or whatever. So, because I have nothing better to do, I've decided to make a top ten list of my hugest foreign actor crushes.
12. Rupert Penry Jones
It's weird because I normally go for the dark and rugged rather than the blond and beautiful, but Rupert Penry-Jones is just too good-looking not to put on the list. His work in Persuasion won me over in an instant with numerous piercing glances and passionate stares. He knows how to work the eyes and that dainty British accent just makes everything a thousand times better. This guy is the reason I ended up watching British television as well. I tuned into Spooks just to see him.
11. Matthew McFadyen
Okay, when it comes to looks alone, there's no possible way he could compare to Rupert Penry-Jones, but there's just something so endearing about Matthew that puts him higher on my list. He's got this soft voice, and ever since I saw him propose to Lizzy Bennet soaking wet from the rain, I haven't been able to get over him. He strikes me as one of those actors who are genuinely nice guys on and off screen. He also has beautiful eyes. But the main "sexy-factor" with Matthew is his voice (as I've mentioned already). It's gentle, and there's something about his lips when he speaks that I find extremely attractive.
10. Hugh Laurie
^^ Single-handedly the hottest old guy in history. Obviously, him being the badass genius main character in House definitely ups the sex appeal, but just watching his interviews there is something about his normal self that still has that House persona. He's confident, smart, and always has that quirky and sarcastic sense of humor that makes him attractive. I think he's probably on this list more so for that personality than he is for actual looks. And it's also kind of creepy that I would have a crush on someone that old, but I can't help it.
9. Ralph Fiennes
Another old guy. But I think I actually have a crush on his 90s and early 2000s self because now he is much too old and not as cute. Anyone who's seen a movie with Ralph in it will tell you that he has the most beautiful and piercing eyes ever bestowed upon man, which is why he often gets put in villainous roles. He knows how to work those eyes as passionate (aka The English Patient, Wuthering Heights 1992, or Maid in Manhattan) or evil (Schindler's List, Harry Potter). He's also got this nasally and raspy voice armed with a proper southern British accent that makes an already attractive guy even better.
8. Toby Stephens
The picture above should be pretty self explanatory. I mean, really? How much sexier could a guy get? Not to mention that he plays my favorite dark and brooding byronic hero in Jane Eyre 2006, crooning out lines of Brontean prose and pulling off a cravat. But that was just the second time he stepped into Bronte. He did it years before in The Tenant of Wildfell Hall. You can't not like a guy who is that beautiful and has a great taste for period dramas.
7. Liam Neeson
What's crazy is that I never would have guessed that Liam Neeson was even Irish. I think that I have some type of automatic attraction to European guys, because there was something about him that I found really appealing before I even knew he had my second favorite accent in the world. Irish accents are beautiful. Combine that with the fact that its coming out of the mouth of an equally beautiful person and you get magic. However, Liam's is kind of weird. It's not the normal Irish thing that I'm used to hearing. He's been in America for a few years now and raised his kids here so maybe the two accents are beginning to intermingle. In which case, it's even better. :)
6. Jude Law
When it comes to the face, he's the best looking guy on this list. If he had a Scottish accent then he would probably be first on the list. As it is, he's British (still a great accent). Everything about Jude is just perfect. He's got amazing eyes, a perfect nose, a perfect mouth, and a chiseled jaw that gives me the tingles. Why couldn't he be Scottish like....
5. James McAvoy
James McAvoy has the best accent in the world. He kind of reminds me of the guy that used to be the ugly duckling nerd but sprouted into someone with really good looks. He's not your prototypical pretty boy like Jude Law. He has a certain quirky look that works for him and him only and that's what makes him so sexy. He's a geek, and he owns it. He never tries to be anything else but his geeky Scottish self.
4. Richard Armitage
Yea. He doesn't even need a description to depict how sexy he is. Just watch the clip above and you'll understand. Sexy. British. Mr. Thornton.
3. Michael Fassbender
Michael Fassbender is my favorite actor as a whole. Everything about him is just incredibly attractive. Physically, those sulky eyes, thin lips, and that perfectly chiseled jaw work just the right way. He's a great on-screen kisser and an amazing leading man with charismatic sex appeal. He's not your prototypical categorized actor. He can play a variety of different people, whether it be Mr. Rochester in Jane Eyre (AMAZING) or Erik in the latest X-Men. Off screen, he's a real and relatable person. He doesn't watch a lot of TV. He doesn't indulge himself with all the cars and clothes. Most of his pictures are of him walking around on the streets in denim, converses, and a t-shirt. He's just that type of guy. Oh, and did I mention that he's German-Irish and that his accent has a touch of both? How much better can it get?
2. Colin Farrell
0_0. Classic bad boy mentality. He's been through his fair share of drug use and alcoholism, but he's cleaned himself up for good and now he's come back looking three times the hotter. Collin Farrell is about as good-looking as it gets. He's a humble guy who likes to laugh and he has a knack for playing more than one type of character. I loved him in The New World as the smolderingly sexy and yet silent and gentle John Smith. The most recent thing I saw him in was a cop movie. He does them both well. Collin Farrell's acting is very underrated. When you're so sexy, it's hard for people to take you seriously as an actor. That would make you too perfect. Oh, and btw...he's Irish.
1. Hugh Jackman
The sexiest Australian ever to hit the face of the planet. Hands down. No questions asked. He is the epitome of the rugged bad-boy with the sarcastic charisma, soft eyes, muscular body, and devilish good looks. Ohhhh yes. When I say I'm attracted to foreign guys, I mean European. Hugh is Australian. Yes, I know that's not European! But he's just so good looking and soooo good at what he does that I just have to put him first on my list of foreign crushes. In general, I'm not hot for the Australian accent. But Hugh wears it and wears it well (just like everything else). He also seems very genuine and adventurous. Anyone who busts his eye zip-lining on the Oprah show has to have a good sense of adventure.

Oh great list. :)
ReplyDeleteI couldn't help but laugh in pleasant surprise at a lot of your choices. We seem to have such similar tastes. Especially in regards to Hugh Laurie. I like some sort of pedophile in reverse when I drool over him >.< but there's something appealing about him, and yes, I think it's more his personality and confidence than just the looks. Plus, all that sarcasm to boot in 'House'. I think I pretty much agree with everything except for Jude Law (because I've never really seen many of his movies or been a fan) and Liam Neeson (who, although I've seen many movies with him, seems kinda old or something. I know, hypocritical considering I drool over Laurie -_- )
ReplyDelete@Ruth: Thank you. ;)
ReplyDelete@Lady: Hugh Laurie was one of my first British crushes. At first, I thought that I merely found his character, House, attractive. But it turned out to be him as a whole. There are some people that are appealing just because of the way they carry themselves, and he's one of those. Neeson isn't amazingly sexy, but his accent makes me melt.
